Shocking Pink lips!
I love a strong, electric color statement for Spring: a flick of electric purple liner, a dab of harlequin green – or my favorite: Shocking Pink on the lips!
Back in May, I did a look featuring this wild pink shade in an eight page trend story for a very visible Condé Nast publication (I shouldn’t say which!) that will be on the newsstand soon. The model was wearing denim, she was platinum blond and very pale and I was yearning for something different than a smoky eye or a natural face. So, I mixed some pigments to create an outrageously bright pink lip color. At the time, the über-famous photographer I was working with hadn’t learned to love it yet, so I took it off and made the girl all smooth, monochromatic beige instead, which was very pretty but not as cool and crazy. Fortunately, I’ve since managed to place this look in other fashion glossies that will also be out soon…
Here’s a story I did a couple of years ago on the theme of bright color, but in a slightly toned-down version.

Of course, I LOVED the makeup at the recent Jil Sander show in Milan (spring 2011)!
That beautifully nude face with a burst of Shocking Pink lipstick is right where I’m at.

Ladies, here’s how to play this color game:
– A matte color statement is the way to go – stay away from shine and shimmer.
– The hot pink looks best on very pale or very dark skin.
– Warmer skin tones look better in redder shades – try Lady Danger by MAC, which is a red/orange with a great shock effect.
– Let the rest of the face be understated – skip the sexy eye and avoid bronzer and blush.
Be bold and beautiful!
