Ellie Goulding on Saturday Night Live
Got to work with the amazing singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding who came to NY to perform at the Regis and Kelly show and at Saturday Night Live. I was absolutely thrilled to meet her: she’s talented, pretty, I’m obsessed with her music AND she sang a whole set at the William and Kate wedding. The degree of separation between me and the British royal family just shrunk to one!
Anyway, I had a feeling she might be someone who gravitates to “look cool” rather than to “pop tart” sexy. Very refreshing thought. With her platinum hair shaved on one side and her ultra-fair complexion she can pull off any look she chooses to.
Crazy show, that SNL! Nerves are tingly and the energy is electric. First performance was “Lights” and Ellie wore a fantastic black number with leather strips and mesh.
TIPS and TRICKS
I evened out her complexion just a little with Clinique Superbalanced Makeup foundation in Ivory.
To follow, a cream blush, Nars Penny Lane on the apple of the cheeks to soften the complexion.
A few cluster lashes to intensify the gaze, a hairline thin brown eyeliner pencil to thicken the lash line and a good coating of Maybelline Great Lash in Very Black.
Lips were the main focus of the makeup and they were colored with the new lip color Pure Matte Lipstick from NARS in a hot pink hue, Carthage.
Thirty minutes later she’s back on stage wearing a leopard print dress. Since the hot pink lip was not going to work at all, I quickly changed the look. On the eyes I used the fabulous cream eye shadow by RMS in Seduce. It’s one of my favorite products, so pretty and versatile. I then added a mixture of lipsticks to produce the neon red-orange hue (MAC and OCC Lip Tar). To top it off, I painted a bright orange eyeliner on the outer corner of the eye for extra pop and we all loved it! Fun to keep the “sexy” quota in the clothes but let the hair and makeup be cool and edgy. Get it?
