Hi everyone,
apologies for my silence. Just came back from Europe and working on a nice, juicy blog about retouching that should be out by Sunday. It will be worth the wait! Don’t forget to check out my Facebook page: fashionfortheface.com which has short and fast little remarks.
A bientôt!

Dear Brigitte Reiss-Andersen,
I’m truly inspired by your work. Is there any way you can advise which are the best makeup schools in New York? I’m really passionate about makeup and want to take it up as a career.
Thanks!
Hi Saloni,
Thank you for liking my work. I appreciate that. As for a career in makeup I would advise to figure out what kind of makeup you want to do: TV/film, theater, brand affiliate, wedding, fashion. All these branches require different knowledge and technique. The most competitive and difficult to access is fashion makeup. There are no real schools for that, you learn by assisting mainly. The only reason to attend a school would be to get some basic knowledge and the experience of applying makeup on people. The unfortunate thing is that most schools teach old techniques that are not really applicable to current fashion makeup. My 3 assistants have all attended the Makeup Designory (www.mud.edu) , but once they started with me they had to un-learn a lot of stuff. But they all say it was a good experience and they made a lot of friends and connections. Getting experience working at a makeup counter is also very important. It’s good to keep a perspective and learn the consumer side of things. There, you have a lot to think about. Let me know how it goes.
